Mabry Mill - August 2015

Tuesday, September 15, 2015

Looks like I'm starting another blog. I'm actually pretty excited about this one, mainly because it's just going to be my photography and travels. I've been addicted to my camera since my husband, Thomas, bought me a nice camera for my birthday back in 2008.

He was in Iraq for one of his deployments and had it shipped to me. I've been in love with photography ever since. Well, technically I loved it before that but that present really helped my love blossom.

And well travel, traveling has been a passion of mine for as long as I can remember.

Like the side bar says, we're making plans to move to the coast but until we do I wanted a place that I could share my photography and some of my favorite pictures from around our town and from our trips.

I may blog a bit, I may just post photos. I haven't really decided. I blog a lot and share recipes over on BigBearsWife.com . So you know...if you're into that kinda of thing you can head over there.

Or stay here and glance over photos. Either way, I'm glad you're here. I'm just having fun with my camera and sharing some of my favorites.

At the end of August we took a little day trip up to Mabry Mill on the Blue Ridge Parkway. It's one of my dad's favorite spots and we drove up to celebrate his birthday.

Mabry Mill is an old grits mill on the Blue Ridge Parkway that was built around 1908. It's literally one of the most photographed sites on the Parkway.

So I decided to snap a few pictures while we were up there. These are some of my favorites from the day.

While we were out and about behind the mill we had a little encounter with a beautiful Monarch butterfly.

It literally landed on each of us and let us grab a few photos.

I've heard that when a butterfly lands on you that it's someone from heaven paying you a visit. Wonder who is was....
